I let a friend of mine test out "remote assentance", my computer became very slow, after I quit remote assentance i needed to reboot, so i did, loged into windows fine but my firewall poped up a progra was trying to go online, the popup had the CMD window style, not lunar. I couldnt move so i rebotted, after the windows boot screen it restarted, again and again. I ended up formatting C:\, any1 know what had caused the problem?

Do you think I should by a monkey, it's cheaper and better than windows :p

You really should not have to reformat for this issue. Do you remember what the program was?

Nope, but my hardrive was in a mess also, 2 windows Xp installs, profiles taht i couldnt open, its fixed now but it was really strange...

It sounds as if it was a blessing in disguise, as it forced you to clean up things quite thoroughly.

Rules-based firewalls (Kerio, Tiny, Sygate, others) will prompt you to define a new rule for a program they do not recognize. Even for a slightly odd program or completely unrecognizable one, let the fireall create the rule 'Deny' and go back in and clean the offending program. If it is really persistant, you may have to 'Permit', but pull the plug on your internet connection. Then go and find the offending program and remove it.

The "Troubleshooting Trinity" can help you a lot with a problem like this. Run, in order:

AdAware (with updated definitions)
SpyBot 1.2 (with updated definitions)
Hijack This!

You likely will not need to run all three.

So next time, do not reformat!
