Here is one for everyone to chew on: Issue cropped up out of nowhere about a month ago, IP412 with two VCM 24 cards, 5 remote sites on SCN, all incoming and outgoing calls go through the 412 and are routed across IP lines. The issue is one sided calls where one end just can't hear the other, the call connects fine otherwise. Rebooting the 412 seems to fix the issue for about a week, then it comes back. Two Avaya cases later it seems that the concenus is a bad VCM card? Any ideas? Any way to narrow this down besides replacing the VCM cards? The setup ticked along fine for years until recently. Thanks for any advice.

Nothing that we can pinpoint besides the normal reboots for programming, they have cycled the power when adding UPS systems etc. This issue seemed to start with just a few complaints and grew as time went on. If a VCM channel is bad why would rebooting revive it?

Rebooting sets reinit into motion where all devices establish initial communication and devices are started anew. Power cycling removes power from the hardware and is beneficial where hardware lockup needs to be resolved. Hardware is not an all works or nothing works proposition. Just as you can drive your car with a slow leak in one tire simply filling it up with air again at whatever interval it takes to restore operation. Hardware issues can be similiar where a power cycle or reboot will restore functionality for x amount of time.

When you have one way audio you need to make a trace
If there is a problem with your VCM card you will see errors of it

What has changed on your network?

this sounds like it could be a routing issue...

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Are these IP phones on each site with Direct Media enabled, or TDM stations? If IP phones, try disabling Direct Media for a little while, see if the problem goes away. I know, you may not have enough VCM resources for that, but at least try at one site. I've had wierd buggy experiences with Direct Media before.

Hope this helps...

If that works then you have a routing problem
Weird issues going away by disabling dmp points to that !

So far as I know nothing has changed on the network, it is on it's own network, and also on it's own fiber to each site since it is a campus setting. The phones are digital so they use an IP Line for routing
