I have a CCM cluster with two servers, all the phones are registered on the subscriber. Will rebooting the publisher cause the phones to lose their connections?

No, it shouldn't impact the phones unless you have any phones register to the publisher.

Are there any caveats that one should be aware of when rebooting the call managers. I too have a cluster and need to reboot both. THanks for any help.

Yes there are.

If you are using call manager conferencing resources (rather than hardware resources for ad hoc conf. calls), those resources will be lost and all calls disconected. I would suggest using hardware resources for this. The calls should continue OK, but I cannot be certain.

The user may notice the phone's screen refresh during failover. It is unlikely though, that they will notice anything at all.

Thanks we have the Meeting place conference bridge 8112. I was expecting to bounce the gateways to the MP. I understand that it's possible calls will drop therefore I am going to do it at 4am when noone will be affected.

An established normal phone to phone call should not drop since the phones will be talking to each other and CCM is out of the picture. You can even reboot the Subscriber and not affect normal established phone to phone calls. However if you reboot the server the phones are registered to, the display reflects that the server is gone and will display an error or status message. When the call is disconnected, the phones will re-register with the active server and normal display will be restored.

Just an FYI. I upgraded both my Subscriber and Publisher today to OS 2.7 SR3. This required 3 reboots each to complete. I did this during the morning hours of our regular production business day and we had zero interruption in service. I asked a few people if they noticed anything about the phone system this morning and not one was aware that we where working on the system.
