I have connected two new LAcie USB HD's (750Gb & 1Tb).
W XP SP2 recognized and assigned I: and J: to the drives.
When I shutdown and then power up the PC, the INTEL splash screen comes and stays: the PC fails to reboot and does not reach the W XP screen.

If I disconnect both drives, the PC reboots normally. If I then connect the two drives, they are detected and can be used normally.

To summarize: no reboot possible if any LACIE disk is connected to any USB port BEFORE power up the PC. Everything fine if disks connected to any USB port AFTER reboot.

I tried changing the drive letters to Y: and Z: to no avail. Also I have another external HDD USB connected (Maxtor) all the time that never gave me this problem.

What is happening? Do I have to disconnect all the time the drives to be able to power up the PC then reconnect?

Thanks for your time!

There might be a problem with your BIOS recognizing the drives or drives of that size. Look into updating your BIOS to a recent version. Also check in your BIOS for settings related to booting from USB and try disabling those settings and see if the problem continues.
