Does anyone know how i can generate a database of all the files in a group of folders on my machine.

I want to create a query in Excel which imports all the files in a particular folder/subfolders. Each filename becomes a row in the spreadsheet and each row has the following data as individual fields/columns:

filename
date created
file type
subfolder name
file attribute a
file attribute b
etc

The result would almost mirror Windows Explorer but the data would be in a spreadsheet and could therefore be manipulated and the query could be refreshed.

Any help much appreciated

thanks PH
i haven't tried anything...didn't know where to start.
problem is i'm not a programmer and was hoping to set up some kind of odbc into the windows file system and then just use the obvious data query tools in excel !!!. the link you sent looks like its straightforward enough if you know VB... looks like i need a vb programmer or a crash course
