I use Access and Crystal to report out of a SQL server, Excel files, and Access databases, sometimes all three at once.

In both programs I have noticed that my records will duplicate anywhere from 2-15 times in the detail section. Select Distinct or some variation thereon only works if you stick with one data source, and sometimes not even then.

What are some possible causes of record duplication? I think my linking is ok, but how would I know?

Usually caused by incorrectly joined tables. Someone with a better knowledge of the database schema would probably need to look at your queries.

General rule of thumb is that the parent table's primary key joins to one or more fields of the child table.

Maybe you have the fields in the data sources appearing to be different due to how the ODBC Drivers are looking at the different data sources.

I would say incorrect connection between tables. You can try to eliminate duplices by using Select Distinct or Select Distinct Row in the source of your report.
