I'm not should what this means.As far as why is it timing out.

Too many hops usually means it is looping somewhere.

I notice when i do a traceroute it timesout after the 8 and 9 hop. But then completes the trace is it a problem on the providers side. Also we have just switched our public DNS MX records could this also be causing some kind of problem. But i can resolve the mail server name.
