Hi guys,

Here I am again,really i have myesterious question to u.

what is da difference between FXS & FXO?

I have googled it many times and it is giving me 2 answers:

The first says that:

FXS: is the Telephone set at home
FXO: is the Telephone line coming fron Teleco. comapny

The second says that:

FXS: is the telephone line coming from Teleco.
FXO: is the telephone set at home

thanx in advance

To ALREI or not to ALREI,this is the command

The right one is:

FXS: is the Telephone set at home (analog phone set).
FXO: is the Telephone line coming from the TELCO comapany.

I would think of it as this:

Central Office --> FXO Interface --> Circuit --> FXS Interface --> Customer Equipment

Yah, as GHTROUT pointed out, easiest thing to do is associate the letters with their function - if you think of the S in FXS as "station" or "set" then you know that that would essentially be an analog extension and if you think of the O in FXO as Central "O"ffice or even "Outside" knowing that that is the interface for you to reach the outside world (and the outside world to reach you) via telephone lines.

FXO = FOREIGN EXCHANGE OFFICE
FXS = FOREIGN EXCHANGE STATION

This comes from extending a POTS line from point A to point B, as in between Central Offices. The "Dialtone" source equipment is assigned FXO for Channel Units, Signalling Converters, Loop Extenders, SF-to-EM, etc. pertaining to that end of the circuit. The reverse is true for the other end or CO as the FXS designation for equipment providing those functions. The historical comes from providing Foreign Exchange service by the Telcos as equipment and facilities has evolved over the years.
