Hello,

My companies Netware 6 server was set up with 5 NSS volumes and one traditional volume. The traditional volume was used as a holding space for some data but is now no longer needed. Currently the traditional volume is completely empty. What I want to do is remove the traditional volume and redistribute the space from it to the other NSS volumes including SYS which is running low on space. Looking at Console 1 I notice that there is a delete button on the properties page of the traditional volume. Is that what I would use to remove that volume? Where would the extra space go? How would I then apply it to the other volumes?

Thanks for any help.

With NetWare 6, the only place you can go to manage volumes is consoleOne. So to answer your question, Yes..
Use the Media tab of the Server in ConsoleOne to do everything you need.

First delete the traditional volume. Then Delete the traditional partition. This will make the space available to other NSS pools. Then you can do with it as you please.

I think you should be able to figure out how to allocate the space how you want since it's all right there on the different tabs. But to give you an idea, you could increase the size of your pools with the new free space, and then increase the quota for a particular volume (not sure exactly how yours are configured)..

Hope that helps.

Marvin,

Thanks for the info. I have not been able to find a TID on removing and realocating a volume. Thats how I get all my info since I have no formal Novell training. One more question. Would it be best to have all the users logged out at the time or is this something I can do during normal buisness hours?

Thanks again,

DeeJay

A good rule of thumb (with ANY operating system) is to perform any major disk operations after hours during a scheduled maintenance window. Make sure you have a full and reliable backup of all data before you start. 99% of the time it will go smoothly, but you don't want to take chances.

Also double double triple check what you are deleting before you actually delete it.
