Realease / expand a gradient mesh

I can't figure out how to expand a gradient mesh. I need to be able to edit the gradient colours. What's the trick? I'm using Illustrtor CS for WinXP.

oops I meant that I needed to break the mesh apart, so that it becomes an object with a gradient fill rather than a mesh. Is that possible?
