Ok, Situation: (Wireless ISP),(using different types of radios:alvarion,smartbridges,tranzeo's)...
Now, below is a simple crude drawing of what I am taking about for those who need to see things. »
Here's the problem. It started some time ago when I noticed that when I issued public IP's to customers with more then one pc that when they transferred files from one of their pc's to another one of their pc's in the same location, that it brought down the whole wireless network. Once I noticed that they were using a hub, rather then a switch I installed a switch which seemed to fix that problem. However, I notice that when they FTP from one pc to another it still kills the network. If you look at the figure provided, this problem would even effect customer B. Which customer B is on a completely separate set of links from the gateway. I have tested this in every way I know and frontpage doesn't seem to effect it as bad, ftp kills it, and it appears that some streaming media effects it terribly too. And of coarse, file sharing. Now, here's the kick. Since the ftp is going from one pc to another in the same room the speed at which it transfers is 10 times that the wireless ISP network link is so most of the info is going DIRECTLY from pc to pc, however enough info is still being sent through the (gateway?) to kill the wifi. Why, how, and how do you stop it? I have tried unix PF load balancing, state controls, bandwidth management tools, no luck.
