Reading software versions from Registry

I would like to write a C++ program which will go through all the layered software on a client PC and record details of the versions of software installed on this software.

I understand that the TRegistry class is around to enable this sort of task to be performed, I am just unsure as to where to start - any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
