I have an Internet connection through a cable provider who periodically dynamically reassigns a single IP address. I hooked up a router to the cable modem that also does NAT translation and DHCP assignment to a few LAN-connected PCs. I would like to discover the currently assigned WAN-side IP address in a Visual Basic or VB Script program running on one of the LAN-connected PCs (running Windows 2000 server). What is the best way to accomplish this?

how do you configure your router ? through a website ?
is it password protected ? can you see the IP on that website ?

If so, then I can give you a script to periodically read that string from the router website...
and if you are using dyndns.org (to assign a dns name to a dynamic IP), I can even update it.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work
