reading notepad converted txt

I am finding e-mails and .jps on winxp converted into notepad and want to know how I can convert it back in order to read/view it?

Could you please clarify your meaning here. Are you talking about files that are seperate from your mail client program?

sorry, I am such a newbie! My husband (since moved out) had converted all his files and pix to notepad or Sun Java...I cannot read anything. I want to know what he is trying to hide from me is all. :(
Please help! thnx.:)

are the extensions real or did he just set every file type to open with Notepad?
