I have an old box, I built it 4 or 5 years ago, and have since forgotten all of the important information about the components, from the motherboard, to the dvd drive.

It's currently running Redhat 9, but I want to tinker with some other OS's (not distros, actual OS's)... and I was wondering if, before I blow away Redhat, there was a place I could go to garner significant information about my machine in case I need the info later.

Thanks,
Rob

Your 'dmesg' output should have all you need to know. Save it all to a text file 'dmesg > info.txt', put it on a floppy. Pretty verbose. Could cut it back a bit with just an 'lspci' output. Not sure if that's a standard program installed all that time, or if you'll have to do install some package to get it.
