Is it possible to read the client email address from the browser information (IE stores it in Tools|Internet Options|Content|My Profile and NN stores it under Edit|Preferances|Mail&Newsgroups|Identity) with an Applet? I don't need to know how I just need to know if it is possible.

Thanks
RnK

Hi Rnk,

I don't think it is possible. Perhaps if anyone knows otherwise would like to say out too?

Regards,
Leon If you need additional help, you can email to me at zaoliang@hotmail.com I don't guaranty that I will be able to solve your problems but I will try my best :)

I would personally hope not! Applets are very restricted - say Leon, do you know why Applets can't paint colors with alpha values? That is bad...

Hi bangers,

This is indeed wierd :) I have this application, which fades images and after changing it into an Applet, I can't see anything from the browser but I can see the images fading using Appletviewer.

However, after fiddling around, somehow it just worked, the images appeared? Don't ask me why because I am not sure too. I didn't change the codes. However, I enabled the Java console to see if any exceptions are thrown (it is after enabling the java console that I am able to see the images). I then disabled it and I am still able to see.

So I didn't know what triggered it too... but I am sure that Applets are able to paint colors with alpha values :)

Thanks I didn't think you could but we have a member who claims to have received emails after using one of the on our web site ( provided to us by a vendor and I just wanted to make sure they were not violating our privacy policy.

Thanks

DISCLAIMER - I am not an expert on this topic, but I've done some reearch.

I think if you use some of the tools in the JDK to sign the applet, and if the user explicitly gives the signes applet the ability to do things it shouldn't be able to do normally, then the applet can get access to local information. However, any user of the applet would get a great big warning box that asked the user for that explicit permission.
