On my Network I have a Server, then my Firewall, then a Cisco Router. The Cisco Router belongs to Bellsouth. The Firewall of course is mine. When I do a tracert the first number I get is 192.168.1.254 & this is the Firewall. Then I get a 68.x.x.x which I assume is the outside of my Firewall. Then I get another 68.x.x.x which I assume is the Cisco Router and then 205.152.150.97 which I assume is the DNS server for Bellsouth. After this I get all kinds of stuff.

My question is am I right on how I read that? The Firewall has to have two addresses, one for each side and the Router only has one outbound. And the tracert should show me exactly what I have??

AV, you're really close, and on the right track, except for one thing -- DNS servers won't show up on a TRACERT. The DNS lookup is a one-time only thing, so once the domain name is resolved to an IP address, it starts over and works its way out again.

The first 68.x.x.x address is your network's WAN IP address; the second is your ISP's gateway, and then the list goes on from there.

Thanks, that gives me the info I needed.
