Reading a Long Raw column from Oracle 8i

Im using Visual Basic 6 with Oracle 8i. I am need to read in information from a LONG RAW column in Oracle 8i. Is there any way of selecting a LONG RAW column in my SQL statement?? Or any way of converting this LONG RAW column value into a Visual Basic 6 string or other data type so that the value stored in the column can be read?
