We have an end user who installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 without uninstalling any previous versions first. (This was an issue with older versions but I don't know if it still is or not) When the user tries to open a pdf file, nothing happens. NOTHING. You can right click and choose OPEN, still nothing. I have tried to just open Reader and NOTHING happens!
I uninstalled everything Adobe listed in Add/Remove Programs, restarted the machine, and installed 7.0. Nothing changed. The program simply does not execute.
Anyone ever encounter this or have a solution in mind?

Thanks,

DWalrus

DWalrus,

I have also seen this issue in previous versions.

Have you manually deleted the corresponding old version's folder from the Adobe directory in Program Files? I think an "add/remove" uninstall still leaves some components from previous versions hanging around that could interfere with the new version install.
Also, you might want to make sure all vestiges of the old install are gone from the registry after the uninstall.

Hope this helps,
Martin

I'm experiencing the exact same problem myself! Reader does not even appear in the process list of Task Manager. Is there a reg setting or dll which should be re-registered? I've removed & reinstalled 7.0 and the 2 updates numerous times, to no avail. Adobe.com does not have this problem documented on their support website, & I've been unable to find a solution anywhere. I hope someone can assist! Thank you.

Im experiencing this issue as well, Im going to try uninstalling through control panel then manually deleting the folder in \program files. Has anyone else got some light to shine on this annoying problem?

Thanks in advance!

The PDFs have just lost their associated program. It happens frequently in the 7 update.

From any windows explorer window. Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Select both PDF and FDF and associate with the version of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader you want them to load with by default.

This should fix both the double click, and the right click open options. We had this happen in a computer lab on 20 machines.

Hope this helps!
