Hey y'all.

I have a Word 97 template with some code for updating hyperlinks. The code is invoked by a command button placed on the page.

However, when the template or a document based on it is opened read-only, I get a winword.exe application error when the cursor moves over the command button.

I cannot find any documentation of this kind of error.

Does anyone know a) what causes it; and b) how to work around it?

Thanks.

Hi MacCaillean
What exactly is the error?
And when you move the mouse over the button the application crashes - is this correct?

;?

Hi PaulTEG

The error is a winword.exe application error.

'The instruction at "0x651ff221" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read"'.

Yes, you're right, in the first instance the crash happens when the pointer is placed over the command button on the Word page. Thereafter, if I try again to access the document, the error happens before the document even opens in the window.

The same document, without the read-only attribute set, works perfectly.

My guess is that it's a bug, plain and simple, but any info on this would be very welcome.
