MY
I have saved my photo album into a CD-RW and evertime I read from this disc, I find that the photos icon have a small "lock" on the upper right hand corner. Any editing done to the photo could not be saved back onto the disc.

It keeps on saying that only the administrator can unlock this .....How do I get rid of the 'lock' and make it possible to over write to the orginal photo after it had been modified.

If you copy a "photo" from the CD RW to your desktop, can you then make changes and save to your desktop?

I ask because this I'm not sure what's happening and need a feel as to what's wrong.

Are you fimiliar with administrator privileges?

YES, I can edit and photo and save it to my hardisk....

My problem is I cannot over-write the original (old) picture with the edited one in the CD-RW. Once I have edited the original, I do not need the original one any more.

As far as I know, there are 3 writing possibilities available:

1. Writing and finalizing a CD. This closes the CD completely for any future writing (unless it is a re-writable, in which case it can be re-formatted and used again)

2. Writing and not finializing the CD. This means that once data is saved to the CD, it is possible to save new data to the same CD, but the first batch of data will be lost (I think the system makes a 20Mb space between individual saves). This process can only be repeated until the CD max capacity has been reached.

3. The Utility "InCD", which is packet writing software from Ahead Software, will prepare a re-writable disc so that you can use it like a large floppy disk.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong about any of these points... confirmation would be nice as well!

A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.

rpwin,

I used Easy CD Creator for several years. My recollection for data disks is:

1. Finalizing a CD means it can be read on any reader. It can be reopened, but it costs 25-50 megabytes to do so. No data is lost if it is reopened.

2. Not finalizing a CD means more data can be added to it. There is no loss of prior data when this is done.

3. Lots of software, including Windows XP, can use a CD as a data disk.

dswwong,

Did you format and initially write the CD-RW on the same drive that you are attempting to update on? I have had CD-RW disks which can be read, but not updated by WIN XP PRO. The disks where originally written by a different machine running WIN 98se using Roxio's software.

For the most part I agree with kiddpete.

My version of Easy CD Creator (using either CD-RW or conventional CD) allows:

finalize and close to make the CD readable from any CD drive.

I believe on mine I have an option to re-open the CD in write mode, add or delete stuff than again close as finalized.

I'll try when I return home and let you know if I'm telling the truth.

Can you select the files on the CDRW and change permissions from r/o?

That said, it is really a poor work-flow saving, editing directly to a CDRW with Photoshop. You could potentially save a corrupted file and would not find out until you tried to open it. A better work-flow is to save locally, and then copy the files to yout CDRW.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
