I created a crystal report that connects to an excel spreadsheet. I'm trying to view the crystal report as a read-only. Everytime I have the crystal report open I can't access the excel spreadsheet, it said 'file locked'. I tried using the Excel ODBC and the OLE DB for Jet 4.0, in both cases I have the read-only option selected.

Since crystal does not write to any databases, it just views them and lets you write reports, I am having trouble seeing how it would ever be anything other than a read only report.

Go to control panel, ODBC data sources and look at your DSN that is setup for the excel file. Make sure there is nothing that says exclusive use of file. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

I checked, it looks fine, the only option it has is for read only.
