read office files ?

I believe StarOffice 5.2 from Sun (it is free) can read Office 97 format files.
I'm not sure how much MS has changed the file formats, but I've not seen any major changes in format.
StarOffice runs on all major UNIX platforms, so I am fairly sure there is a version for AIX.

But I don't think it is free...there is probably a demo version....
And not sure what hoops you have to go through to get it to work with AIX
