Go to the inbox. Highlight a read e-mail, then click on another folder. Return to the inbox and the highlighted mail appears as unread.
Anybody know of a fix????
Lotus acknowledges this problem in Notes and is working on a solution. This was supposed to have been fixed with R5, it wasn't.
Lotus suggests a workaround for this problem: if you leave your mail file open all day (or even for an hour) and change windows to do other things in Notes, try closing your mail file (when done reading your mail, press the Escape key or choose File - Close to get out of your mail file) before doing those other things. This is supposed to alleviate the read-unread problem.
To add to that, users who continue to experience the problem often have other persons' mail files also on their desktop, and if you close them as well or remove them from your desktop, the problem seems to go away.
I know of no "fix" for this. Lets hope they get it right next time.
My personal solution to this problem is to use the document preview pane and select 'Mark documents read when opened in preview pane.' You can hardcode your Inbox to always use the preview pane, too. Check out
The solution Lotus proposes works if your Inbox isn't the "home page" for your Notes client (that is, you can close it and not close Notes). But since folks such as myself set Inbox as the "home page" I can't close it without leaving Notes. "One fish, two fish,
otherwise, try this,
I was not too clear on my response (I was in rush to home.) From the domino server (where you will see a DOS like command windows with all Notes transactions happening), enter on the prompt, load updall mail\database.nsf -R (where mail is the location where the client's database is kept and database.nsf is the database assigned to the user.)
For example ,
for my domino server, mail database is kept in F:\lotus\domino\data\mail\JDOE.NSF. Thus I would run the updall command as from the prompt, " load updall mail\jdoe.nsf -R ".
