Hi,
We have an application that connects through ODBC and we are receiving the following error:

7/16/02 2:11:42 PM VBRuntime Warning None 1 N/A RES-SD-BONES The VB Application identified by the event source logged this Application GEDIProvServer: Thread ID: 65 ,Logged: Class=1 ID=1000 [TID:65] GEDIProvPAIF.clsProvPAIF.ProvRequests[Event: [Err.Number=-2147217871 Err.Source= Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers][INTERSOLV][ODBC SQL Server driver][SQL Server]ct_results(): user api layer: internal Client Library error: Read from the server has timed out.][Args: [EventClass=1][EventID=1000] [1] Reason: => Could not obtain provisioning requests from PA-Prov i/f [2] BridgeID: => 34 [3] Priority: => 1]

Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

I encounter this problem too. Which one can solve this problem? Please give me a help. Thanks a lot!

What platform is your server? (Hardware and OS)

Have you logged a case with Sybase and/or checked their listings of solved cases?

What version of Sybase are you connecting to?

What version of the Sybase/Intersolv ODBC driver are you using?

Are you using TCP/IP to connect to the server? (Check the DSEdit set-up for the server name referenced in the ODBC DNS definition.)On many Unix platforms there's an OS-level TCP/IP "keep alive" setting that will shut down IP connections that are idle for longer than the setting--worth a check. There may even be such a thing on Win server platforms, but I've never had the problem occur with one myself.

Under what circumstances does this error occur? (That is, does some time pass during which there is no client/server interaction or does it just happen in the midst of active traffic?)

Does this happen if the client is running on the server box itself (if your server is a Win box)?

What is in the Sybase errorlog (a read from client failure--perhaps some time back)?
Have you checked for Sybase EBF's on the server and client code?
Give us a bit more info and we'll see if anyone knows anything.

I am working on application using ODBC to connect to sybase database. I run the stored procedure and use the nextrecordset method of ADO for getting resultsets from the executed procedure.

But for one particular recordset it is giving the error as
"[MERANT][ODBC Sybase driver][SQL Server]ct_results(): user api layer: internal Client Library error: Read from the server has timed out."

if I skip this one, it will run fine. The procedure if run externally is working fine.

Please give me the solution if anybody have faced this problem.
Its very urgent.

Thanks in Advance ...

Hi,

Have you fixed this problem? I'm getting the same error in my VB/Sybase12.5 application. Please let me know what did you do to fix this problem.

Thanks
Andrew
