In a thread at Anandtech Forums on best android apps, [ ] it was suggested I have a look at DBF Viewer Beta, a free download. I installed it today on a couple of my android phones and had a look. I failed to get it to see DBFs on my NAS (via wifi), so I copied a couple of my most important DBFs to the phone. I found that it could see DBF records but AFAIK it's incapable of viewing Memo fields. That's where I have most of my important data. It has a search function, which is nice. I didn't play with it much, but it did filter for records whose first (character) field started with the search string, IIRC.

Comments welcome. Is there any way I can access, even maybe edit, VFP DBF's using an android phone with some facility? That app lets me browse records, which is fine, but access to memo fields would be a huge improvement. Being able to do this remotely, either by wifi (nice) off my NAS or via data in particular would be super.

FWIW.
I think that you would need to write an app in MAUI or Xamarin - that's what i'm used to although you can always use native Java, but that's not my area of expertise.

I did once write a C# desktop app to read (Not write) DBF files, so it would be something similar. The DBF structure is well documented as too is the memo field layouts.

There is no technical reason that I can think of that would prevent this from being done, just a question of doing it if it's worthwhile

Hello,

you may convert it to MS ACCESS via ACCESS or with some code for example using odbc (dbf->mdb and mdb->dbf)
There are tons of ACCESS viewers for android in playstore.

Regards
tom

Can an ACCESS viewer for android see MEMO fields? Perhaps even edit them?
