Read and write to COM1 serial port

Hi there,

I need to read data from hardware attached to the COM1 port and occaisionally write data as well. Does any one out there know of a simple method of doing this? I know that MSComm can do it but I can't register it successfully. I get run-time error 424 object required. Is there any other method available?
