Read After Verify "Not Supported"

I'm using Netware 4.2, after the install the read after verifivation is OFF. It is suppose to be ON by default, but is not. Monitor shows that read after write verification is NOT SUPPORTED. When turned ON in stratup.ncf read after write verification still shows NOT SUPPORTED. How do I enable read after write verification. Incidentally I'm using WD hard drives 13 gig or bigger inted chipsets and intel processor.
