I have recieved a sniffer trace .cap file - which has been created using a Network General sniffer. I am trying to read it using the Windows NetWork Monitor tool, but am unable to read it. Research on Microsoft's web site indicates the file may be compressed and would need to be 'decompressed'.

Does anybody know of such a decompression tool?

Hi, There's a very useful piece of Software called ProConvert made formaly by Net3 but now Wildpackets (who make Etherpeek etc). It can convert virtually all capture files to and from Agilent, HP Internet Advisor, Fluke Prot Inspector, HP Internet Advisor, Sun Snoop, tcpdump etc etc and more importantly for you and us, Microsoft NetMon and obviously the best analysis tool "Sniffer". I hope this helps, Alf

Try ethereal its free and will open netmon and sniffer trace files.. The best part, it will convert them to many popular formats. AND ITS FREE....

If you go to my website under presentations you'll find an Ethereal overview presentation.

Enjoy
