I have lost telephone directories afew times on sx2000 systems after restoring the databases. The only common factor is that they all have lightware 34.2.5.3. Anybody know why this is so ?

I have read the release notes and searched everywher on mol and come up with nothing.

Why are you in the practice of restoring the database?

Tell us a little more about your system. Is this a redundant system (dual main controllers)?

Are you using OpsMan? If so, what version?

Are there any alarms on the system?

Are you using SDS?

I have been restoring the databases due to database corruption. The system redundant, using two mc3e controller cards. No ops manager is used on this site and not using system data synchronisation either. There were alarms on the system(database corruption on plane a and b), but this was fixed by database restore's. The datasave done did not show any errors while saving.

On a previous occassion i have lost the telephone direction on a non-redundant system as well so i dont think that the redundancy status of the system makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply!!!!

Any idea what's occurring to cause the corruption? For some reason here I'm getting the impression that you're doing this more often than "normal" (normal being defined as meaning seldom or rarely).

yeah DB corruption should be a rare thing. Normally, if I have corruption on the same plane twice within a year I start replacing hard drives.

Actually the site do use the guest services function quite often from a superset 7 console to change the c.o.r. This causes the pms-link to go down for a short until the customer comes out of the guest service function.

EERRRRR, silly little question, but whilst doing a data-restore, the system asks "restore hotel/motel wakeup information and settings ?' If i choose no, would that cause
the entire telephone directory to be lost ? In c.o.s the rooms are set to hotel room extension, so thats why i would not expect to loose all the telephone directory name.

Hope this provides a little more light!

NO... at least it shouldn't. Hotel/Motel wakeup settings is only valuable if you're doing an immediate restore. On the other hand if you're just taking an archival backup then no, you would not want these as they would be out of date within 24 hours. Kind of like saving vm messages when doing a backup.

Well that eliminates the restore process being done wrongly, can anybody elaborate more about guest services funtionality in detail ? i really am tearing hair out of my head trying to work this telephone directory problem out!!!!!!

this is separate to the problem but how could someone doing Mov/Swaps from the command line with PKMs attached cause database corruption ?

How often are you performing a data restore?
How often is the system reporting a database status alarm?
If you run a "dbms check full" what error(s) does it report?

Is the problem occurring always on the same plane?

I can't help feeling there's more to this than we're seeing.

Mov/Swaps involving PKMs is almost a guarantee you'll have db corruption. There's a knowledge base article on it somewhere saying don't do it. I believe it refers to a device with a PKM being swapped with a device which does NOT have a PKM.

You can also have db corruption from deleting all routes out of a route list that is still assigned in ARS.

Do you have a PMS at this site? Instead of having the console make the changes simply have the PMS do a check-in check-out.

On your immeadiate problem when you get the erro run a DBMS CHECK FULL and determine what part(s) of the database is corrupted.

30 years and it's still true.....NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

the data-restores have been going on approx every 3-4 months, and its on both planes. there are table errors but i havent made a list of them about 4-5 table errors. a dbms save clears the errors but only for afew days, a data restore clears the database errors for afew months.

there is a pms link and the operator(superset 7) is providing the pms link from the console, and also makes the changes via guest services, they need to be able to close certain bedroom phones manually without using the pms link because of guests that just walk in and dont provide credit card details. on check-in the phone is opened via pms, they need to set it to barred. Opera(foh) only opens and closes extns on check-in and check-out.
