I have done the CCNA training as part of my university course, but I have forgotten alot of the detail of what I learned in the first year.

A local college is running the course for very cheap, is there any harm in doing the training again? Means I will be fully up to speed for the prometric, and I can keep my knowledge up to date during my year out

Thoughts/Opinions?

Ta :)

cyberspace,

If the price is right go for it!!

Depending on when you first took the training the CCNA has changed a bit in the past few years.

If you have a good instructor ask questions, if the school has a Cisco lab (routers and switches) USE IT - get hands on experience !!

Get a study group together from class - always great to have others to bounce questions off!

Good Luck !!

Cheers for the tips :)

Yes, I was very suprised at the price to be honest, only £150! Usually more than that.

I actually only finshed the training in May, but I note that there have been some changes, for example, ip subnet-zero is now officially used in CCNA, whereas back in 2003 when I first stared the training, it was not used!

The school does have a lab, this is one of my main reasons for going back - because while I know good details of the theroy, it's not much use if I can't do the practical - YES i use Boson NetSim, but I regard this as an accompianment to the real hands on stuff, as opposed to out right alternative.

I just feel that by doing it again, not only will I have the most up to date knowledge, but I won't forget what I have learned, and I can better the skills I have already developed. Plus, I will be considerably better prepared when I take the CCNA prometric next July.

Anyway, I have enroled and start this coming Wednesday!

Well I started last night.

Labs are great, although not too sure about the instructor yet, he seemed to skim over things way to quickly! Still I won't judge yet.

There are some changes! And it seems a higher standard now, you have to get 70% in the online final to progress to the next semester, which was not the case last time

and you arn't allowed ANY notes in practical exams!

Oh well, good practice eh!

cyberspace,
You do not have any notes when doing the sims on the CCNA exam.

Same policy I use in class - students learn to use "help" built into the IOS and understand what they are doing and can adjust when a monkey wrench is thrown into the works.

When I watched students in another class that the instructor let use notes, I thought the students were baking a cake - they kept looking down to follow the steps word for word. If I threw a change at them they had no idea where to start to trouble-shoot the problem.

Sounds like you will learn lots !!!

You are indeed right!!

I think it's just adjusting really, i'll just really hammer Net Sim at home and really get my head around it.

To be honest I took my other practicals rarely referring to the notes but it was nice to have them as they have been a saver on occasions!
