Going to be migrating a 6100 physical server to VMware and also changing the IP address. Is there any mitel docs for this procedure ? Need to double check what licensing requirements are and also how to restore the database

Goto for docs on upgrading.

There is a specific process that must be followed to change the IP Address. It does not work 100% of the time and you sometimes need to get into the Registry Editor.

I suggest you be prepared to contact tech support at Prairiefyre.

Thanks for the reply kwb. Ive been on the prairiefyre website and all they have is the installation guidelines and software upgrades. No info relating to server migration or ip address change. Normally the ip address change means re-running the config wizard, shoudlnt it ?

On the Pre-release 5.0 version there was an app under the management console specifically for changing the IP address.

I'm not sure where to find it on Post rel 5.0

It's been a while for me since I did either of your tasks. As long as the subscription is current, you should be able to talk directly to tech support at PF.

I recommend you give them a call directly.

I could do the following :

1)Backup old server.
2)Load CCM onto new server.
3)Take license files from old server and put onto new server and then re-license online with prairiefyre.
4)Restore Database from old server onto new server.
5)Summarize data
6)Re-run the config wizard to change to new the ip address and new server name.
7)Under management console change the sql server ip address
8)Summarize data again
9)Test that it all works

Can you see any problems with that ?

Contacting prairiefyre might not be an option as they are closed on weekends.

a couple of ways but what version you on?
if 5 and up then easiest is:

backup old config and text files for smdr and ACD.
these are located under PF folder I think the sub folder is called datadirectory
install new software on new server with new IP new name, new everything. If you can leave the server name the same.
license - restore config.
make sure new site and media is collecting and working, probably wont so you might have to run the config wizard. check again. If it still isn't connecting then you'll have to edit registry with new computer name. once you have the site collecting smdr and ACD data you should be ok.

all you have to do is copy the text smdr and acd files accross and summarize.

I've done this probably 4 times now. I've always succeeded but a couple of times I've had to go into the registry. as KWB suggested make sure you have PF support a click away.

just make sure you backup the config and data.

restore

Thanks for the response mitelpassion. Im currently on release 5.5sp2. I think ill go with your idea. Any idea on how the regedit is done if its required. Also to add to the mix, MS Exchange is already running on the server. Would my install affect the MS Exchange in any way ? Plans for e-mail routing later on.

I did the same thing yesterday and no issues.
I didn't even bother with the database as I just merely summarised the raw text files as far back as the customer wanted.

you MUST have a copy of the config backup located under the backup directory. this contains a whole lot of zip files and when you open these contain xml files. with this you can restore your config. This does NOT restore your data.

the regedit location is something like hkeylocal machine/software/prairiefyre/common/ something something
in any event you'll find the PC name here. also it's possible to add the computer name under the YSE under tools and computer names.

when you do the config restore you'll have the option to sync the IP address (a tick box). I suggest doing this.

anyway a bunch of things but you get the idea?

exchange shouldn't be an issue. email routing - I'm guessing multi media stuff right?

just make sure about compatibility ;)
