re: new to sql 2005

I just downloaded sql 2005 trial version but I only have the configuration manager showing up.
There seems to be missing componets that allow you to build databases. I don't remember how I installed it, if it asked administrator or user or whatever. Any help on where you set up your database would be appreciated. My book comes in tuesday and I am trying to get a head start.

I am not sure that SQL Server has a trial version (if it have one, please forgive me). I suppose you downoladed and instaleed SQL Server 2005 EXPRESS which is a free version of SQL Server 2005 (it is like MSDE for SQL Server 2000) SSE dosn't have Management studio in its instal;ation package, check this link:

from there you could download and install SSMS Express. Keep in mind that it has limited functionality. I strongly suggest you to buy a developer version of SQL Server 2005 (If I remember well it cost about $60, but have FULL functionality of SQL Server 2005).

There is infact a trial edition which can be downloaded from here

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/trial-software.mspx.

It sounds like you downloaded the Express edition not the trial edition, or you did download the trial edition, and you only installed the server, but not the client tools.
