Re-linking kernel caused problems

I installed OpenServer 5.04 on a Dell OptiPlex Pentium II. I changed one value in the tcp/ip setup in Network Manager. The system said to re-link the kernel so I did and also said yes to using the new kernel on bootup. Now the system no longer boots to the graphic desktop. I use startx at the prompt to get the desktop but many icons on the desktop no longer function. I double click on Network Manager (and several other icons) and nothing happens. I can't even open file manager. I tried using unix.old at the boot prompt but that didn't help. What happened and can I get back to my original configuration without re-installing SCO?

Try typing scologin query to see if scologin is enabled. If not, type scologin enable to reenable it.

This probably won't resolve the issue with icons not functioning correctly though. Annihilannic.

Unfortunately it sounds like the OS is crashing. It may be coinincedence that it happened after a kernel rebuild. Probably will take a reload of the OS. Could be a bad hard drive also.
