Sidekick99 has been running on my Windows XP (Home version) fine for several years. After installing Windows Service Pack 2 Sidekick won't run at all.

I uninstalled Sidekick(using windows 'add or remove programmes') but attempts to reinstall from the Sidekick99 cd-r have failed as XP doesn't seem able to read or recognise the 'start up' prog.

I used System Restore to revert to my computer's pre-service Pack 2 state but Sidekick 99 still refuses to run.

I've read through all the many helpful FAQs but can't find an answer to how to get this running again (or to access all the crucial diary information safely stored in my computer).

Glad of any help you can offer! Many thanks,
Rusty47

I have the same problem - Windows XP will not recognize fun the install program for Sidekick 99. Would love to know the solution. Thanks!

I did solve the problem (after many hours of installing and un-installing various things). I realised that a programme was running in the background - winexec32.exe - which stopped Sidekick loading properly and also inhibited the cd install programme from re-installing it.

Once I knew that was the prob I googled winexec32.exe and found it was a version of the win32.rbot (a backdoor worm or 'bot') see here:

My anti-virus software hadn't picked it up so I ran the on-line HouseCall software( and after that Sidekick loaded fine.

DearRusty,
I may be stating the obvious here but have you checked out the following faq

faq807-2246

let us know if it works(or not)

Regards Jim
Check the FAQ area of this Forum for answers (If there are any FAQs!) , it could save you a lot of time and effort and means that links are more likely to be current. Please 'Comment' on them if they are not!

Thanks, Jim. I did read that FAQ when the problem arose; but as I explained in my previous post the reason that Sidekick wasn't working was due to the rbot worm (which in my case appeared as the winexec32.exe programme). Once this had been eradicated there was no longer a problem with Sidekick.

I am curious to know why it was only Sidekick on my computer that failed to work - all other software was running fine, hence my suspicion that Sidekick99 was failing rather than I'd got a virus.

All best, Rusty

Dear Rusty,
Somehow I must have had a cached version of this page!!
Or posted almost at the same time.
Glad to hear all is ok!
