Re Installation deleted ID's and e-mail

Just re-installed to sort doot problems and have been shocked to see that the Document directory has been re-set and old users and their documents including e-mail have been deleted ????????????????????????

anyone else found this happened. Now moved folders from default so next time this won't happen - hopefully..

Just a word of warning to all
