Hi, my hard drive in my old notebook had crashed a while ago. Ive since then purchased a new one, but I wanted to get the old one running again. If I were to purchase a new hard drive for the old notebook, would it be possible to install a fresh copy of XP with the re-installation CD that came with it?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Yes, the reinstall CD should reload everything back to a "as manufactured" state.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

As long as the backup disc is a full copy/configuration of XP and not just an CD that activates a hidden backup that resides on your old hard drive.
You will tell straight away when loading the disk if it behaves like an XP install or not.

On wings like angels whispers sweet
my heart it feels a broken beat
Touched soul and hurt lay wounded deep
Brown eyes are lost afar and sleep

Thank you very much guys. Ill let you know the outcome.
