I am re-installing a Merlin Legend with Merlin Mail release 3 that was shelved for several years. I've powered the system, tested all the ports, documented the numbering and the time went to Jan 1. I'm guessing this mean the system has reset to factor default settings as the extensions are now 2 digit (were 3-digit) starting at 10. I powered the mail, connected the six voice ports to a 012 analog card.

How do I determine the version of the Legend KSU/PBX?

I attempted to see if old data remains in the Merlin Mail. I attempted to do this by calling the extension numbers of the analog ports I connected the voicemail. (port 25 -30 exts. 34-39)The ports change from green to red and then it rings to ext 10, the operator set. Has this reset to factor default settings as well and then do I have to intialize the voicemail to access it? Does the Merlin Mail allow for a pilot number to access it or must I set up a call group (ie 770)?

Can someone help me acquire a version of SPM, DOS or WIN? My laptop is running Windows 2000 Professional.

Can access the voicemail through a direct connection with terminal emulation software ie Procomm? The voicemail included an merlin external modem. I believe I read this was for system diagnostics and is not used as a programming tool. Is that correct?

I have not been able to log to the legend with the lowest port 01. I believe that when the system was last in use it used a different extension then the operator extension as the programming set. Do I simply try a MLX-20 set on the one of the first eight ports (01-08), press the menu button and I am in to see the System Programming heading?

I'm eager to learn. I've been reading other postings but I can't seem to apply what I've learned yet.

My background is with Norstar, Meridian 1, Octel, Executone, Centigram, and Panasonic.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

It's been unplugged for so long that the memory has returned to factory defaults. The Voice Mail ports are not administered as Integrated VMI, so calls arriving at them do not identify themselves as such; that's why they transfer to ext. 10.

Try plugging an MLX-20L into the first MLX port, and seeing if there was a backup on the PC card that you can restore from.

The Voice Mail itself stored everything on hard disk, so except for the system clock, everything should still be there.

Check our website and click on Reference Guides. We have a basic quick reference for setting up Merlin Mail on a Legend system.

You can determine your version of Legend by accessing an intercom and dialing *05.
