I need to take a Word document that contains bookmarks, with links to other parts of the document, and when I convert it to a PDF document .. I want the PDF file to pick this up and keep the internal links.

Basically, so I can have my "table of contents" (in effect) at the top of the document .. or ... link other key words .. and allow the user to click on the key words and then go directly to the other section within the document.

I can't seem to see how to do this.

Is there a way to do this with Version 6.0??

I'd appreciate help. Really ... would appreciate it.

PS: I am curious if this would be handled when converting the Word document to PDF .. or after it is converted to a PDF .. would I then do something. I can't seem to figure this out. The only option I see is one to find http:// URLS. But, .. this isn't what I need.

In MS Word, I might create a link on a word like "Section 1" .. and have it jump down to the part of the document that discusses Section 1. So, this isn't a URL link. It is just a bookmark within MS Word. I think I saw Acrobat (in earlier versions) handle this .. but I don't see how to do it now. Any thoughts????

Thanks,
Gary

How are you creating the PDF?

It's my understanding that if you use the two step process (print to postscript file then separately distill) then the bookmarks are not retained. However, if you do the Export to PDF (or click the Adobe PDF button in the Word menu bar) then the links should be retained. You need to launch Distiller first and set the job options you want to take effect in the Word doc, then close it. Next time it opens (automatically, when you directly create the PDF in Word) it should hold the last selected job options.

I am not familiar with V6 of Acrobat, but I should think the same principle aplies.

Eggles,

Thanks.

But in addition to that .. I wanted to .. from within Word .. to create a link to a bookmark in the document and .. have the link picked up in Acrobat.

The bookmarks seem to be picked up .. but when I create links (on certain text) to the bookmarks within the documents .. these things don't work. The links just stay where they are and go nowhere.

Any idea on how to create links (in Word) to bookmarks, or other websites, etc. (without having to put the entire URL in the text) in order to get it to work??

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Gary
