Hi,
While using Red Hat 7.2 with Lilo, we can go to the shell prompt at startup by pressing <CTRL>+<X>. How do we do the same if we have Grub installed. Also how do we boot into single user mode ( for ex Linux 1 as with Lilo) where Grub is installed. Thanks.

im not much of a Linux guru.. but i've tried using Grub back when it was command-line based. Now in RH 8.0 grub is GUI.

anyways, in grub you would need to load the kernel first. Then direct the kernel to the partition which contains the Linux OS. typing help will display the list of commands. Im not too sure what the commands are, but the process goes something like this. The command is similiar to one that would be in in a lilo.conf file.

1. load the kernel.
2. Then direct the kernel to the partition: linux root=/dev/hda1

Don't take me word for it. But basically that is what you need to do in grub in order for it to boot your Linux. Load kernel and point it to the correct hda partition. Hope that helps.
