Hello all, I have a question if I may, I am using RedHat 6.0 and am wondering if I select 'everything' during install, will you need to compile the kernel to get ppp ( for home dial up ) and Apache for an internal server with machines at home working?
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
thanks
As it ships the kernel should have support for this. AFAIK, you don't need any specific kernel support for Apache, and the PPP module seems to ship as a standard module these days.

It's probably worth recompiling your kernel, though. You tend to get a lot of stuff in the default kernel that you don't need. And you may find that there's something you do need that isn't in there.

The default install should include Apache. It definitely supports ppp !
I agree with AndyBo, recompile for a more efficient kernel (for your use).
It's not that hard, and takes about an hour to set the configuration options, then about 30 minutes to compile (on a P90 with 24Mb RAM). You'll probably get different durations, though!
Cheers,
