I have two clients with the same issue. Arcserveit 6.61 (build 897) is invoking rds.exe and it is using 99% of the windows 2000 server's cpu. I can stop it by stopping the database service, but at next backup, it starts again. The last one ran for over 10 hours (overnight) before I was informed. Any ideas?

Kill RDS.exe in the Task manager or use the Kill command in the dos and kill the process...

Syntax is

Kill RDS.exe or Kill the process ID of RDS.exe

This a basically a database problem.

Delete R*.* files on the database folder
Delete all the files in the temp folder under arcserve...

use the URL to maintain the arcserve database,

DatabaseBaba

Check to see if ARCserve is trying to merge in large CAT files. These will be located in the ARCserve\temp directory. If there are files there, then let it finish.

There is no reason to kill the process if it stops cleanly when the db engine is stopped.

To bypass this I have disabled the Removable Storage Service.
And it work!!
