I have a Win2k setup as PPTP server and external users can make connections without any issues. Users can access files in a shared folder, so I can conclude that the connection is good.

But, the weird thing is I can't use RDP on XP machine to login to the server. When I initiate the RDP connection, the initial screen will come up as if it was about to prompt me for the user name and password, but it just hangs and tell me that the connection couldn't be made.

I have a Sonicwall firewall and PPTP and GRE have been allowed to flow into the PPTP server. Any ideas???

Still no luck even after using DRTCP to reduce MTU down to 1400. I also tried the registry tweak to set the MTU at 1400 for PPTP protocol.

I would still think this is an MTU issue as I have seen it many times before.
I suggest you try some pings from your workstation to the destination PPTP Server. Try sending 1500-byte packets and see if it works, if not reduce it until it works then set the MTU on your Ethernet adapter to the same value.

I will try that and let you know how it goes. Thanks!
