RDP and Local Printer Support

Hi,
We are running a Win2k3 terminal server. The users want to log on to the system from home afterhours and that is not a problem. The problem comes when they want to print to their local printers at home.

In the remote desktop connection, there is a tab called Local Resources. If a check the printers checkbox, nothing happens. If I check the disk drive option and click the connect button, then I get a message that the local disk will be made available and on connecting it is available.

Why is the printer not showing up. Am I missing some settings.

Yes you may be missing the fact that all printers they have at home need to have the printer drivers installed on the TS before they connect or the printers wont map. Only error you will see on this is in event viewer on the TS.

At home I have a Epson Inkjet printer.

This is what I did:

Installed the driver on the TS locally

Went home and logged in with the printer tab checked.

Still cant see the local printer.

Shouldnt there be a message saying that the following local resources will be available in the session. It only gives me the disk and serial port message.

there are a few places this could be prohibited at. The first is on the client rdp side, make sure the check box for printers on the local resource tab is checked. On the TS in the Terminal Services Configuration snapin in the RDP-tcp properties under the Client Settings tab. The last place i can think of is in a linked GPO -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Template -> Terminal Services -> Do not allow client printer redirection.
