Hi all.

Here's an interesting (and quite embarassing) question that I'm not sure is being posted in the correct forum, but here goes anyway.

(2) NetWare 5.0SP6.0a servers running both IP/IPX

I recently switched to using my DELL Latitude C600 laptop full time and have encountered an interesting "problem".

When I RCONSOLE into my servers using my laptop, I'm not able to switch module views using either +/- keys or the ALT + "F" keys.

When using my old desktop, I had (and still have) no problem switching views.

Anyone have any ideas why the ALT + "F" keys wouldn't work? They work fine with any other apps, etc.

I also can't CTRL + ESC to exit...I'm forced to click on the "X" and that ain't good.

Thanks in advance for any help for this "stupid" question

Mark

Have you tried using RCONAG6, Novell's TCPIP based Remote Agent? Do you get the same problems?

Good luck!

Use Alt+F1(menu), Alt+f2(quit), Alt+F3(forward), Alt+F4(backward).

Cheers,
Mark ;-)

I have never been able to CTRL-ESC using RCONSOLE as that just brings up the Start Bar (Windows NT) so I'm not too sure how you're doing that. What OS is your laptop running? It might not be running the DOS session correctly.

You could try using RCONJ but you have to have to have RCONAG6 loaded on the server. Command would go something like this:

RCONAG6 password 2034 16800

The URL below tells you what the command line parameters are (ignore the fact it says NetWare 6, it is the same):

Thanks for the responses, folks.

I know this is a very minor issue and that there are problems out there that are so much more serious, and yet you take the time and energy to respond to this one. This is what makes tek-tips and it's members so very valuable, and, unfortunately, increasingly rare in this industry. Thank you all.

Now, down to the nitty gritty again.

Im using a DELL Latitude C500 laptop running Win98SE.

I have no problem establishing an RCONSOLE session. I'm just having problems with using the <ALT> + <"F" KEY> combinations. They don't seem to want to work. Works fine on a workstation though.

Can you exit an application (or even an Explorer window using the <ALT> F4 key combination? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

I also have that same laptop, but cannot duplicate your problem. Are you using any external accessories ie: Keyboard, mouse, port replicator? Are you going to a DOS prompt and running or just a Win shortcut?

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

TheLad: The <ALT> keys work in all other applications.

yvfwc: Only external accessory is a mouse. I use either the RUN command line or go to a DOS prompt. RCONSOLE loads fine, just can't navigate once logged into the console. It's driving me nuts actually. I have a call in to a Novell guru friend of mine to see if she can duplicate/resolve the problem.

Thanks again for all your help.

Mark

Okay, check this out...

Go into Control Panels / Keyboards and select the GENERAL tab. The default for a regular DeskTop PC is...

Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard

Is this what your Laptop says?

If you click on the CHANGE button, and select all devices, you should find a keyboard description that reflects what you actually have.

Hope this helps!!!

Good Luck!
