Is there a way to make sure "Unsecure IP" always comes up in connection options? It seems to always go back to secure and it is just a pain to switch it every time...
Thanks!

What you are trying to acomplish is not a feature of the RconJ client.

PLUS

Both Rconaj6 for TCP and Rconsole for IPX are resource hogs on NetWare. When you control a server, you will notice a spike in CPU utilization (v12 servers with turbo charge don't see this too much).

Super Marv [bravo] Huffaker's sugestion on Adrems FreeCon is a tihng to look into. There is only one draw back. If the NDS database is closed on the server your tying to connect to, then it is usless.

For normal everyday usage, Freecon should be used. For the emergency, give this a try

Wow, Brents back with Christmas icons! We thought you bailed, but didn't realize you were just busy working on your holiday gear.

:p

As far as remote utilities, I've gotten pretty used to using the web based remote console in remote manager. It's not bad, and its even better in 6.5 because it supports the GUI.

I have the opposite problem, "Unsecure" always appears each time I open RCONJ and I want it the other way????
But I have learned to live with it.
And I have two RCONJ icons.
I have the old RCONJ(from netware5) for unsecure connections like to my Novell 5.1 servers and use the newer RCONJ from netware6 for connections to netware 6 servers.

Sounds like if you only want unsecure connections you can use the RCONJ from netware 5.

I seriouisly avoid using RCONJ like the plague. I think it's been over a year since I was forced into using it.

With NetWare 6, you can get very good performance and functionality out of the Web based remote console utility. I have learned to use it more and more, and it comes in handy when I have a web connection and nothing else. And assuming you have not hosed up your SSL stuff, you can ensure that everything is encrypted and secure.

Plus, I think it even works on NetWare 5.1 through the portal. I just did it the other day, or maybe I was hallucinating. I can't remember.

But. here is a small lesson on the web based remote utility that had me frustrated for a while till I figured out what was going on...

--- There are two ways to do it. One gives you a live screen and working interface to the server. The other gives you screen shots and dorky buttons to press for <ENTER>, <ESC>, and others. I have __NO-CLUE__ why they ever put this into their product into the first place. Complete garbage..

So my point is, you'll want to choose the first option. This is how you do it. On NetWare 6 in Remote Manager, in the left hand column click on "REMOTE SCREENS". This will populate the main frame with a list of screen choices.

At this point, you want to click on "CONSOLE SCREENS", which is the top option in the list. If you choose any other option from the list, you will get the HTML pages that have to be refreshed -- and you get the dorky buttons to press for esc, enter, f1, etc.

Once you have opened the Console Screens, you then have the option to change between different screens, just like if you were using RCONJ or AFREECON.

It's very cool, and in NetWare 6.5 you can even get your Graphical Interface (STARTX) to show up in your browser remotely which is nice when you need to install something remotely from the console.

I have several Netware servers 5xx/6xx.
They all respond to adremfree except for 1 5xx, I get "communication error 8819".
Any idea what causes this?
Thanks

Contsi, Either AFREECON.NLM is not loaded on the server or you're not authenticated, and somehow the server can't authenticate you. Try mapping a drive to the server first and seeing if that helps. If not, check and see if AFREECON is loaded. Afreecon should try to load the nlm, but I've seen problems with that before where you have to do it manually.
