I want to learn to make a raycaster with textured walls that is fairly quick
 
A texture mapping raycaster is not too different from a non-texturemapping one. You just do a one dimensional texture stretch of the vertical strip corresponding to the collision point. (I realize that makes no sense to someone who is trying to figure out how it's done). For the time being, read the code for this raycaster.
