I have printers set up on print servers and I want to be able to print to the ip socket. I don’t want to use lpd.

As an example, I have a printer connected to port 1 of a print server. The ip address is 192.9.9.21 and the raw port number is 9101.

Thanks,
Dave

We have a similar set up here, all you need to do is enter the ip/port as the lp host in lprsetup. Therefore your /etc/printcap lp entry will look a bit like this:

:lp=@192.9.9.21/9101:\

Thanks but I want to avoid using lpd. Is there another way to send data to a print server?

I am not familiar with any other ways of printing unfortunately. You could look at the Advanced Server tools though, there may be something more suited to your needs there.
