Can anyone recommend software to let me play with RAW format digi photos?

I've got a Canon EOS300D (Rebel in the US I believe) and haven't really done much with this format yet. iPhoto certainly recognises it, but not much else.

I got Adobe Photoshop Elements with the camera, and have played with that a wee bit.

Aperture sound expensive - so any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

What is your output intent? This often determines how you handle images.

Common RAW-supporting apps are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Apple Aperture

Fee,

Got Aperture it's brilliant (Could let you have a copy to try (Ask Mr Lacey for my mail)) but iphoto can also handle raw format.

MRN - Apple have offered me 30 days free trial of Appature, but that makes me nervous cos if I really like it it will cost me lots.....

iPhoto certainly imports the RAW image, but doesn't seem to give me lots of options to 'play' with the image.

I'll have a look at your link though - thanks for that.
