I have Photoshop 7.0 and want to work in RAW. While the option is available, when I try to open a RAW image from my camera, all I get is a screenfull of multicolored snow. I have tried playing with the option in Open As to no avail. What's the deal?

A lot depends on what camera generated the file. At one point, you had to download software from Adobe. However, it didn't work for all cameras. Nikon, for example, was playing games by encrypting their raw files. It did work with my Canon. All manufacturers have their own raw format.

CS and CS2 are further along in that respect.

Second that, try RAW conversion with your camera's app. I use Nikon Capture as it's better than pshop's native raw conversion support (if marginally slower)..

My camera is a Pentax ist DL. It gives me the option of saving in three different sizes of JPEG or in RAW.
